Cancer Disease

Cancer Disease

Patients will be considered to be in the terminal stage of cancer if they meet the following criteria:

  • Disease with distant metastases at presentation

  • Progression from an earlier stage to metastatic disease with either:
  • • A continued decline despite therapy
  • • Patient declines further disease-directed therapy

Certain cancers with poor prognoses (e.g., small cell lung cancer, brain cancer, and pancreatic cancer) may be eligible for hospice care without fulfilling the other criteria in this section.
